Inner Sanctuary

Kuching unlike other modern country, other countries have lots of high-rise building whereas Kuching are more towards to nature environment. Kuching citizens always tend to forget to appreciate the nature of Kuching. I am one of it before. One day, my dad bring me go for road trip, at first I thought he want to bring us to Serian or Sibu, end up going to Bau, which I never been before. After we reach, what I can see is a limestone cave, huge one. When I start climbing the cave, a cool air blow on me, it’s really refreshing. It is quite tough climbing up the stairs. When I reach inside the cave, really wow. At the moment, I feel lucky I live in Kuching, a place with such amazing limestone cave. The feeling of being inside there is totally different compare to the pictures that can be found in the Internet. Seeing all the layers, irregular form of limestone, fresh air and most mesmerizing part is I saw bird nest. My father told me Kuching is one of the places that have wild edible bird’s nest, but due to the high demand in the market, many businessperson starts to build “bird apartment”. Inspired by the edible bird nest, I started to research on how they harvest bird nest, because I saw the bird nest is attached on the limestone, which is mostly impossible to harvest it, and modern way to harvest as well. I came out an artwork that represents the adventures in Kuching and at the same time reminding us the beauty of Kuching. This art installation is the combination of modern and traditional way to harvest bird nest with concept of minimalism. Experience the inner sanctuary of Kuching city.
