The concept of my multifunctional bench is about unity. For my understanding unity is about a bunch of people or things that act as one. The reason why I choose unity as my concept is due to what I have seen an experience in Kuching, Kuching is also known as City of Unity. To me, Kuching deserves the title as the racial unity in Kuching is intact, people that come from different kind of races can live and work in total harmony and unity. The reason why I choose bench in state of chair or stool to symbolize my concept is because bench is symbolize sharing. Kuching people usually work together as a team in every situation. In Kuching, we also celebrates diversity and every culture’s celebration like our own. Kuchingnites could be from either the north or south city municipal councils, can come from all level of society, and from any of the 20 over ethnicities in the states. Yet it is equally understood that in general, kuchingnites homogeneously speak or understand well at least English, Hokkien or Bahasa Sarawak, almost never honk on road, love their local food and don’t take their politics or themselves too seriously. My bench is also come with the combination of adjustable table and a bicycle rack which can be put in a public space such as park, school and others. And the materials that I used for my furniture is mostly wood which is one of the source in Kuching.
