First of all, I would like to introduce myself. I am a sixteen-year-old girl who is currently studying at SMK Batu Lintang and my name is Claudia Song Mei Ling. I came across the “Kuchingforme” leaflet in school and the moment I read what it was about, it got me excited. It raised the question of what I, as a resident in Kuching, would want for Kuching’s future to be like. A paradise. As much as I want the city I love and grew up in to modernized, I would love in some way retain nature’s beauty. More buildings are made; more trees are being sacrificed. I never noticed how many trees surrounded Kuching until I went to Hong Kong last year. In the heart of Hong Kong, trees are like shadows in the night. I did not realize there were no trees around until I stopped to look for them. There were none. However, they do have gardens guarded by walls and gates. The garden was stunning but Kuching has it better; instead of walls surrounding nature to protect it, nature surrounds us and we as residents should protect it. I drew my piece in a way I want modern to meet nature with a little hint of tradition. The city of cats is ever expanding but I wish the thought of nature came to the minds of those planning our city’s future. Building can be done in an eco-friendly way. A city abundant with flora and fauna can bring many benefits to us, as residents. We can attract tourists from other countries with our unique culture and the beauty of our natural world. I have more to say but I shall stop here for now. Thank you for reading.
