The Beauty Of Kuching

First of all, I would like to introduce myself. I am a sixteen-year-old girl who is currently studying at SMK Batu Lintang and my name is Claudia Song Mei Ling. I came across the “Kuchingforme” leaflet in school and the moment I read what it was about, it got me excited. It raised the question of what I, as a resident in Kuching, would want for Kuching’s future to be like. A paradise. As much as I want the city I love and grew up in to modernized, I would love in some way retain nature’s beauty. More buildings are made; more trees are being sacrificed. I never noticed how many trees surrounded Kuching until I went to Hong Kong last year. In the heart of Hong Kong, trees are like shadows in the night. I did not realize there were no trees around until I stopped to look for them. There were none. However, they do have gardens guarded by walls and gates. The garden was stunning but Kuching has it better; instead of walls surrounding nature to protect it, nature surrounds us and we as residents should protect it. I drew my piece in a way I want modern to meet nature with a little hint of tradition. The city of cats is ever expanding but I wish the thought of nature came to the minds of those planning our city’s future. Building can be done in an eco-friendly way. A city abundant with flora and fauna can bring many benefits to us, as residents. We can attract tourists from other countries with our unique culture and the beauty of our natural world. I have more to say but I shall stop here for now. Thank you for reading.

I would agree with her most cities are surrounded by concrete jungle but a city like Kuching needs to be different to bring in more touristd. Eco friendly is the key word.

As a foreigner I love Kuching, it is a such beautiful city still surrounded by nature beauty. I have seen trees being burnt and destroyed at the neighbouring country and it really sadden me. Greenery were all gone because of human greed. Good write up and creative artwork Claudia. You are talented young girl!

Heart captivating fine art. Appealing to both young and old. The DUN/parliament building preserved in the transparent crystal jug and the cat trying to reach out – express a thousand words. The background so well taken care of. Your art certainly has deep meaning. I love it!

Claudia, your write up is very well written. Too often, many things or even people are not appreciated until they are gone …in this case, the greenery we see around us are often taken for granted and destroyed and gone in a very short period of time… take for instance the beautiful trees…it took so many years for the trees to grow and stand strong and tall..but within minutes, destroyed by the decision made to have them cut off or uprooted…We should appreciate them for the oxygen and the shade and beauty they provide.
Well done Claudia and all the best to you. God Bless.
