The art installation designed to bring out a message on how we need to pass on our traditional skill to our future generation and be proud of it. As a foreigner for me, when I first came to Kuching I felt curious about the food but the most attracted food for me is Kek Lapis.
Look at that amazing colourful pattern and design on it!
This is impossible, how did they do it!
So this is what I felt in the first time I saw the Kek Lapis. This is also the remarks of the flabbergasted visitors when they first set eyes on the Kek Lapis.
Kek Lapis is a specialty cake of Sarawak, particulary pioneered byp the Kuching Malays and has been a-must-buy item for many visitor to Kuching. Kek Lapis is also the ‘Jewel’ of Kuching. It has a unique pattern on the cake and have a lot of flavour. To do the pattern on the Kek Lapis also need a lot of patient. Patient and creative are the main key to make a amazing colourful Kek Lapis.
To achieve my art installation, I am going to do a light installation with the colourful pattern of the Kek Lapis. By using the light to let the shadow of the pattern reflect on the wall to form a spectacular pattern of the Kek Lapis.
